Professional Teeth Whitening
When your teeth are stained, you may feel reluctant to show off your less-than-pearly whites. When whitening toothpaste isn’t getting the results you want, it’s time to consider professional whitening.
At Gaul Dental, we love helping residents of Troy and the surrounding communities achieve vibrant, dazzling smiles they can wear with confidence. Our dentists, Dr. Jim Madany and Dr. Jessica Gaul, and their staff provide efficient teeth whitening as one of many cosmetic services that can enhance your smile. The In-Office Whitening Process
A whitening session begins with a simple cleaning, followed by an assessment of your teeth. We locate your tooth coloring on a color chart, so you can determine the difference in shade before and after treatment.
Once you have been prepped, we place a specialized bleaching gel on your teeth. This gel reaches beneath the surface enamel to break up stains deeper in the tooth, removing years of staining in as little as one session.
Because the concentration of bleach used for in-office whitening is stronger than other whitening methods, you will achieve more visible results.
Take-Home Whitening Kits
For those with more demanding life schedules, setting time aside for teeth whitening can be complicated. Our office can provide take-home whitening kits that allow you to whiten when it suits you.
These kits include custom bleaching trays fitted to your teeth, and a safe bleaching gel designed to whiten tooth enamel with minimal sensitivity. Using a take-home kit can be great for timely bleaching, or for use to touch up your smile after an in-office whitening.
Why Do Teeth Become Stained?
Your tooth enamel is less solid than you might expect. Small particles are able to pass through the slightly porous surfaces of your teeth, leaving traces beneath the enamel. These stains build up over months and years, gradually shifting from subtle shading to noticeable discoloration.
Regular dental cleanings can minimize staining, and of course, good hygiene habits go a long way. However, certain dietary choices can make staining more likely. Dark beverages, including coffee, soda, tea, and certain alcoholic drinks, leave heavier stains over time. Certain foods, such as tomato sauce and dark berries, should also be limited to avoid stains.
